News in Brief:
-The AYuTe Africa Challenge Nigeria is offering a $40,000 prize pool to support young Nigerian agripreneurs developing tech-driven solutions.
-Innovations must have the capacity to improve smallholder farmers’ productivity, income, and access to markets.
Young Nigerian agripreneurs with innovative solutions for farmers now have a chance to compete for a $40,000 prize pool under the AYuTe Africa Challenge Nigeria.
The competition, organised by Heifer International in partnership with Wennovation Hub, aims to identify and support technology-driven agricultural enterprises that can improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
According to organisers, the winner of the 2026 challenge will receive $20,000, while the first and second runner-ups will earn $12,000 and $8,000 respectively. Beyond the prize money, finalists will gain exposure, mentorship opportunities, and access to industry stakeholders who can help scale their ideas.
Who Can Apply
The programme is open to Nigerian agripreneurs between the ages of 18 and 35 who are developing innovative solutions that address real challenges faced by farmers.
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens and provide a valid identification document such as a national identity card, international passport, or permanent voter’s card. In addition, the business must be registered or incorporated and capable of scaling to impact a large number of smallholder farmers.
Organisers say applicants should present ideas that are affordable, environmentally friendly, and practical to implement. The proposed solutions must also demonstrate measurable impact, particularly in improving farmer productivity, income, access to information, resilience, or reducing labour intensity in agricultural operations.
Technology is a key requirement. Applications must include a clear technological innovation that solves a specific agricultural challenge and shows evidence of positive impact on farmers’ revenue or operations.
Past Winners and Impact
Previous editions of the challenge have highlighted innovative ideas that connect farmers to markets and improve productivity.
In 2022, Ifeoluwa Olatayo of Soupah Farm‑En‑Market Limited won the grand prize after developing a USSD platform that aggregates market participants, connects farmers with buyers, and delivers produce directly to retailers.
Similarly, in 2023, Tajuddeen Yahaya emerged winner with Extension Africa, a solution that combines trained Farmer Business Associates with digital tools such as offline apps, chatbots, and multimedia advisory content to support farmers.
The organisers say the challenge is designed for early-stage or growth-stage youth-led agritech businesses capable of creating large-scale impact for smallholder farmers across Nigeria.
Applications for the 2026 edition close on March 14, 2026. See the link.
