BOA, Heifer Announce Application for Nigeria's 2,000-Tractor Mechanisation Scheme

News in brief:

-BOA and Heifer unveil national programme to boost food security through large-scale mechanisation support.

-Beneficiaries to receive tractors, implements, digital tracking, and flexible repayment systems.

The Bank of Agriculture (BOA) has partnered with Heifer Nigeria to launch the Renewed Hope National Agricultural Mechanization Program (RHNAMP), a nationwide tractor financing and management scheme aimed at modernising Nigeria’s farming landscape.

The programme will finance 2,000 tractors and 9,000 agricultural implements to support mechanisation companies, youth, and women agripreneurs across the country.

BOA and Heifer say the initiative will increase productivity, reduce labour burden, and improve farmer incomes by replacing manual processes with modern machinery.

Programme to Strengthen Food Security and Rural Prosperity

RHNAMP aligns with the national food security agenda by empowering new mechanisation service providers who will serve smallholder farmers in rural communities.

Each approved beneficiary will receive:

  • A fully equipped tractor
  • Preventive maintenance via mechanisation hubs
  • Technical support systems
  • IoT-enabled digital tracking for efficiency
  • Flexible repayment options tied to usage and revenue

The programme promotes long-term sustainability while ensuring beneficiaries can repay conveniently as their businesses grow.

Youth and Women at the Centre of Mechanisation Drive

With Nigeria’s agricultural sector heavily dependent on smallholders, BOA said more young people and women must be equipped as key drivers of innovation in farming.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to leverage the financing opportunity to build profitable mechanised services that support crop production, land preparation, and processing.

Farmers and agripreneurs interested in participating can apply through the BOA website.
