Dangote Group Contracts SAIPEM for Fertiliser Expansion in Nigeria, Ethiopia

News in brief:

-Dangote signs major global technology and engineering partnerships to boost urea production capacity to 9 million metric tons in Nigeria.

-New $2.5bn Ethiopia fertiliser plant and six new ammonia and urea facilities reinforce Africa’s role in global supply.

Dangote Group announced a slate of high-level technical partnerships to drive the next phase of fertiliser expansion in Nigeria, alongside the development of major new facilities in Ethiopia.

The collaborations form part of a long-term strategy to support food security, strengthen agricultural value chains, and position Africa competitively in the global fertiliser market.

Massive Scale-Up to Triple Nigeria’s Urea Capacity

The expansion project will increase the Group’s urea production capacity in Nigeria from the current 3 million metric tons to 9 million metric tons annually.

The existing complex in Lekki operates two production trains with a combined capacity of 3 million metric tons. The upgrade will add four additional trains, enabling Dangote to meet rapidly rising fertiliser demand across Africa and export markets.

In addition to expanding Nigerian operations, Dangote recently broke ground on a $2.5 billion fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia, designed to produce an additional 3 million metric tons of urea per year.

The move underscores the Group’s commitment to accelerating agricultural development across the continent.
