News In Brief:
— Nigerian egg sellers and distributors have launched a digital egg trading platform to tackle seasonal egg glut.
— The EggHome App was launched as part of the celebration of 2026 World Egg Day to improve the livelihoods of producers.
Nigerian egg sellers are turning to technology to tackle seasonal egg glut by launching a digital platform to increase consumers' access to affordable eggs.
The EggHome App was launched by the Egg Sellers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (ESDAN) to connect producers, distributors, sellers and consumers. It promises seamless transactions for users.

Egg Glut Endangers Farmers' Livelihood
In 2023, then Chairman of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), South-West Zone, Oluleye Gideon, reported that about 15 to 20 million crates of eggs were unsold. The cash crunch at the time reduced consumer spending, worsening the situation.
Three years later, egg producers continue to suffer from the mismatch between production costs, prices and what consumers can pay. Farmers cannot keep eggs in stores because the production cycle continues and eggs are highly perishable.
According to ESDAN national president, Olaide Graham, egg glut remains a recurring challenge in Nigeria’s poultry industry. It causes producers to lose millions in expected income.
EggHome App to Increase Market Access
Graham claims that the digital platform would reduce the bottlenecks and distribution inefficiencies. The app is expected to tackle middlemen exploitation in the egg value chain, which contributes to the seasonal glut.
She explained that the overarching goal is to improve market access, minimise avoidable losses and enable consumers to obtain fresh eggs at more affordable prices.
The EggHome App was launched to celebrate the 2026 World Egg Day, themed “Protein That Powers and Protects”.
Graham noted that it underscored the association's commitment to making eggs more accessible to households, schools and communities, particularly as an affordable source of protein.
The celebration also featured activities to educate students on eggs' nutritional benefits and their importance in supporting growth, development and healthy living.
According to the ESDAN president, the students’ participation would encourage healthier food choices and promote awareness of entrepreneurship, innovation and the poultry industry’s contribution to national development.
Available for Downloads
The app was available on the Google Play Store, and it had about 50+ downloads when we checked. There were no user reviews yet, and at registration, users could choose how they wanted to use the app (customer, vendor, or driver).
