Ekiti, L-PRES Plan 30,000-Capacity Poultry Hub in Emure

News in brief:

—Ekiti Government and L-PRES plan to establish a semi-automated 30,000-capacity broiler facility in Emure Ekiti.

—The project is expected to create over 300 direct and indirect jobs while strengthening poultry production and processing in the state.

The Ekiti State Government, in partnership with the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), has intensified efforts to strengthen poultry production and food security with plans to establish a 30,000-capacity broiler production facility in Emure Ekiti.

The proposed facility forms part of a broader strategy to develop three large-scale broiler production hubs across the state in Ado Ekiti, Ikole Ekiti and Emure Ekiti.

A delegation from the Ekiti State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, led by the Commissioner, Mr Ebenezer Boluwade, alongside the L-PRES team headed by its Director, Mr Olayinka Adedipe, visited the Elemure-in-Council led by His Royal Majesty, Oba James Babatunde Ajiboye (Otutubiosun I), as part of consultations for the project. Also present during the visit were prominent chiefs and the Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Tosin Adedayo.

Facility to Include Modern Poultry Infrastructure

The planned broiler facility in Emure is expected to operate as a semi-automated poultry production hub equipped with an administrative block, security house, warehouse and weighing bridge.

The state government also disclosed that a poultry processing plant currently under construction in Ado Ekiti would process birds produced across the various poultry hubs in the state.

Speaking during the visit, Boluwade said the project aligns with the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s commitment to tackling hunger, creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activities across Ekiti State.

According to him, the Emure facility alone is expected to create more than 100 direct jobs and over 200 indirect employment opportunities for youths and residents.

He also commended the traditional ruler for providing a large parcel of land for the project without conditions, describing the gesture as a strong demonstration of commitment to community development.

Monarch Commends Governor’s Development Efforts

In his remarks, Oba Ajiboye praised Governor Oyebanji for ongoing developmental projects in Emure and urged the contractor handling the facility to ensure timely delivery in line with approved standards and specifications.

The contractor also assured the community that the project would be completed within the shortest possible timeframe.

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) is a collaborative initiative involving the World Bank, the Federal Government and the Ekiti State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

The programme is designed to improve livestock productivity, strengthen resilience, enhance the commercialisation of livestock value chains and improve the country’s response capacity to agricultural emergencies and sectoral challenges.

At the end of the engagement, the delegation inspected the proposed project site earmarked for the broiler facility. The project would contribute significantly to poultry production, youth empowerment, employment generation and economic growth in Emure Ekiti and the wider Ekiti State economy.
