Ellah Lakes Emerges Best-Performing Agro-Related Stock in Q3 2025

News in brief:

-Ellah Lakes emerged as the highest-performing agro-related stock on the Nigerian Exchange in Q3 2025 after years of recapitalisation and renewed operations.

-Other strong performers included Nascon, Cadbury, Presco, FTN Cocoa, Nestlé, and Okomu.

Agriculture company Ellah Lakes has emerged as the highest-performing stock on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) platform at the end of the third quarter of 2025. The production company, which appeared to have been in a period of relative quiet for so long, returned strongly to top the performance charts.

Through its CEO, Chuka Mordi, the company explained that its years of “silence” (as one news publication described it) were spent on recapitalisation efforts. This involved a multi-billion-naira injection aimed at rebuilding operations, including milling facilities and competitive production infrastructure.

According to Mordi, the company cleared 1,000 hectares of land at ₦1 billion, acquired 15,000 seedlings for ₦40 million, and spent ₦200 million to plant 500 hectares.

This strategic push began yielding results in the first quarter of 2025 when Ellah Lakes recorded its first revenue in four years — ₦68.7 million. Following this, the company’s stock price grew by 131.79% in Q2 and a further 54.32% in Q3.

How agro-related stocks have performed in 2025

In terms of year-to-date (YTD) performance, Ellah Lakes’ stock price rose from ₦3.05 in January to ₦12.50 at the end of September, representing an impressive 309.8% surge.

Other top performers in the agro and consumer goods segment include Nascon Allied Industries Plc, which ranked second with a 217% rise in stock value YTD, and Cadbury Nigeria, which maintained strong momentum with a 205% gain. Presco Plc was the only other company in the sector to post gains above 200% so far in 2025, as it eyes expansion through capital injection and acquisitions.

FTN Cocoa Processors Plc also staged a remarkable turnaround. After recording a 17% loss in Q1, the company bounced back with a 98% gain in Q2 and closed Q3 with a 193.6% YTD increase.

Meanwhile, Nestlé Nigeria Plc and Okomu Oil Palm Plc, two companies with share prices above the ₦1,000 mark, also delivered strong results. Nestlé’s stock rose from ₦875 in January to ₦1,870, while Okomu climbed from ₦444 to ₦1,029.

However, Nestlé, Okomu, and Presco all saw their stock price growth slow down on NGX in Q3 compared to the preceding quarter. Yet, none of the stocks in the sector reported a decline since the turn of the year.

Conclusion

The surge of Ellah Lakes and other agro-related companies on the NGX shows that agriculture is not just about farming; it is also a major driver of wealth creation and investment opportunities.

While blue-chip giants like Nestlé and Okomu continue to deliver steady long-term value, re-emerging players such as Ellah Lakes and FTN Cocoa are proving that strategic investments and bold turnarounds can yield extraordinary results in a short time.

For Nigerians, especially young people, this matters. Agriculture remains one of the country’s most vital sectors, and the stock market is an opportunity to participate in its growth beyond the farm.

Investing in agro-related stocks can be a way for young professionals, students, and first-time investors to build wealth, diversify their savings, and directly support companies driving food security and industrial development.

In a time of rising costs and economic uncertainty, paying attention to how these companies are performing on the NGX offers not only financial insight but also a window into where Nigeria’s future growth and opportunities may lie.
