News in Brief:
-The Enugu First Lady, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, distributed fertilisers to farmers in all 17 LGAs to improve yields and food security.
-The initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s agricultural vision and seeks to reduce food imports while boosting local productivity.
Enugu State First Lady, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, has distributed fertilisers to farmers across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) to improve food production, strengthen livelihoods, and advance the state’s food security agenda.
The exercise, carried out in partnership with the Enugu State Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, is part of Mrs Mbah’s empowerment programme designed to support farmers and enhance agricultural productivity.
She explained that access to fertilisers would not only boost crop yields and soil fertility but also reduce dependence on imported food, stabilise prices, and strengthen Enugu’s economy.
“By providing these fertilisers, we strengthen agriculture, increase food production, and improve livelihoods, ensuring no family goes hungry,” Mrs Mbah said.
She commended the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Patrick Uburu, and other stakeholders for their efforts in supporting farmers with inputs, training, and technical assistance. She further encouraged farmers to use the fertilisers responsibly to maximise their output.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner, Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr Mike Ogbuewu, noted that the programme aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s broader vision for food sufficiency and agricultural transformation in Enugu State. He emphasised the need to make agriculture more appealing and rewarding for farmers, particularly the youth.
