FG Invites Young Agricultural Extension Professionals to Submit Expressions of Interest

News in Brief:

—The Federal Government has invited young Nigerians to submit expressions of interest for a new opportunity to support farmers and strengthen extension services.

—This initiative aligns with the government's broader youth agriculture agenda to create jobs, expand agribusiness opportunities and improve food security across Nigeria.

The Federal Government has called on qualified young Nigerians with experience in agricultural extension to submit expressions of interest for a new opportunity to strengthen agricultural service delivery across the country.

The call, announced by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President, is part of the government's broader efforts to deepen youth participation in agriculture while improving support for farmers nationwide.

In a statement issued on July 1, 2026, by Dr Titilope Gbadamosi, Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), eligible candidates were encouraged to submit their details for consideration via this link.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

— Have at least two years of field experience in the agricultural extension sector as either: (i) an Agricultural Extension Agent, or (ii) an Input Dealer working directly with farmers.

— Possess a valid and functional email address and phone number.

— Have a functional bank account with a name that exactly matches the name on their National Identification Number (NIN).

— Be able to read and write.

The Office of the Special Assistant to the President urged all qualified young professionals to take advantage of the opportunity by submitting their details through the designated application process.

Part of a Broader Youth Agriculture Agenda

The expression of interest comes amid a series of Federal Government initiatives to increase youth participation across Nigeria's agricultural value chain.

In June, the Federal Government launched the Youth in Agribusiness Land Trust Fund (YiALTF) in partnership with the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). The programme awarded ₦1 million grants to 10 young farmers and aims to train six million youths over the next three years while supporting the establishment of 500,000 youth-led agribusiness enterprises.

The initiative is expected to provide young agripreneurs with access to land, financing, mechanisation, modern technology, mentorship, business incubation and market opportunities. The government also plans to transform 42 Youth Development Centres into agribusiness hubs across the country.

Similarly, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development recently unveiled plans to engage 37,000 young Nigerians through a Women and Youth Livestock Empowerment Initiative. The programme will support beneficiaries in animal production, feed development, dairy, meat processing and other livestock-related enterprises, reinforcing the government's commitment to creating jobs and improving food security.

Why Agricultural Extension Matters

Agricultural extension professionals serve as a vital link between research institutions and farmers by providing technical guidance, promoting improved farming practices and helping producers adopt new technologies.

Expanding the pool of trained extension personnel could improve farm productivity, enhance food security and accelerate the adoption of climate-smart agricultural practices across Nigeria.

The latest call for expressions of interest signals the government's continued focus on building a skilled workforce to support farmers and create meaningful employment opportunities for young Nigerians in the agricultural sector.
