News in brief:
-FG praised OJF Global for distributing food items to more than 5,000 vulnerable Nigerians in Abuja.
-The initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and broader poverty reduction efforts.
The Federal Government has commended the Ologodidan Jezi Foundation (OJF Global) for its humanitarian intervention, which provided food assistance to over 5,000 Nigerians.
The commendation was given at the Second Edition of the OJF Global Abuja Food Drive, where the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, praised the foundation’s contribution to addressing hunger and vulnerability.
Doro, who was represented by Mr Tunde Doherty, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress United Kingdom Chapter and Chairman of the Committee of Diaspora Chairmen, said the ministry remains committed to partnering with credible non-governmental organisations to reduce poverty.
He explained that the ministry’s mandate includes poverty reduction, disaster preparedness and mitigation, as well as other humanitarian interventions.
According to him, effective collaboration with reputable NGOs, such as OJF Global, is crucial to delivering meaningful impact to vulnerable populations across the country.
Renewed Hope Agenda Focuses on Skills and Self-Reliance
The minister urged Nigerians to take advantage of opportunities created under the Renewed Hope Agenda by acquiring skills that can enable self-reliance and economic contribution.
He emphasised that sustainable poverty reduction depends not only on relief efforts but also on capacity building and skills acquisition.
Dr Doro also called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate OJF Global by supporting vulnerable groups and fostering a culture of giving.
Foundation Combines Relief with Long-Term Empowerment
Earlier, the Founder of OJF Global, Dr Rachael Ojuade, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian intervention and sustainable economic development.
She described the foundation’s work as a strategic combination of immediate relief and long-term empowerment aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s socio-economic systems.
According to her, the foundation supports widows, widowers, orphans, unemployed youths, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Dr Ojuade said the Abuja food drive marked the second edition of the initiative, following the maiden edition held in April 2025.
She disclosed that over 5,000 food items, including rice, spaghetti, groundnut oil and salt, were distributed to beneficiaries during the programme.
She added that OJF Global is targeting two million households nationwide and remains committed to strengthening cooperative systems, improving economic structures and responding swiftly to humanitarian crises.
Profits Reinvested into Humanitarian Work
Dr Ojuade explained that the foundation invests in social enterprises across sectors such as real estate, tourism, microfinance and agriculture, with profits reinvested into humanitarian programmes.
She noted that this approach promotes independence and community development rather than reliance on short-term aid.
Some beneficiaries of the food drive commended OJF Global for its impact, describing the organisation as purpose-driven and compassionate.
Mrs Florence Andrew said the initiative reflects a strong commitment to supporting widows, orphans and the helpless, while encouraging a culture of giving.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Helen Justin from Nasarawa State, expressed gratitude for what she described as life-changing support received from the foundation.
