The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agri-Tech practitioners to deepen collaboration in agricultural innovation, research and food security.

The agreement was formalised during a meeting held recently between the university and Agro Allied Services Limited.

Partnership to Support Teaching, Research and Community Service

Speaking during the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Babatunde Kehinde, expressed appreciation for the longstanding relationship between the institution and the agribusiness firm.

He explained that formalising the partnership would strengthen collaboration and ensure that the relationship contributes meaningfully to the university’s core mandates of teaching, research and community engagement.

Kehinde noted that partnerships between universities and industry players are essential for translating research outcomes into practical solutions that address real-world agricultural challenges.

Focus on Innovation and Modern Farming Technologies

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of modern technologies in improving agricultural productivity, highlighting the role of precision agriculture and other innovative farming techniques.

According to him, leveraging advanced technologies alongside human expertise would enable Nigeria to maximise its agricultural potential and strengthen national food production systems.

He also stressed that the university remains committed to extending its impact beyond campus through community-focused initiatives that benefit farmers and the broader agricultural sector.

Agri-Tech Practitioners Commit to Collaboration

Earlier, the Team Lead of the visiting Agri-Tech practitioners, Tolu Eko, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the university.

He said the partnership would support efforts to address emerging agricultural challenges, particularly the impact of climate change on food production.

Eko added that closer collaboration between academic institutions and technology-driven agricultural enterprises would accelerate innovation and strengthen Nigeria’s food security efforts.
