News in brief:

-The partnership will enable students and staff to access professional HR training and certifications alongside academic programmes.
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria to establish a professional study centre at the university.
The agreement, formalised on March 5, 2026, is aimed at enhancing professional training, human capital development and knowledge exchange for students and staff.
VC Highlights Alignment with University Mandate
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Babatunde Kehinde, described the collaboration as consistent with the institution’s mandate of teaching, research and community service.
He noted that although the university is widely recognised for its agricultural specialisation, it also offers several allied programmes that support national development.
These include engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and electronics, mechatronics and civil engineering, as well as courses in entrepreneurship, accounting, business administration and economics.
Professional Certifications for Students and Staff
Kehinde also highlighted that the university pioneered the Department of Agricultural Administration to address the growing need for professionals capable of managing agricultural enterprises and agribusiness operations.
According to him, the partnership with CIPM would enable students in relevant fields to obtain professional certifications alongside their academic degrees, significantly improving their employability and career prospects.
He added that academic and non-teaching staff would also benefit from professional development opportunities in personnel and human resource management.
CIPM Commends University Leadership
Earlier, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPM, Ahmed Gobir, represented by the Institute’s Vice President, Chidinma Obiejesi, commended the university management for its warm reception and commitment to the partnership.
Gobir described the collaboration as strategic and mutually beneficial, noting that effective partnerships require deliberate effort and sustained commitment from all parties involved.
He also praised the university’s leadership for its proactive approach to preparing students not only for academic excellence but also for professional relevance and leadership in the workplace.
Expanding Opportunities for Students
With the agreement now in place, students of the university will have the opportunity to graduate with both academic qualifications and professional certifications from CIPM.
Other dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Olawale Dairo; the Registrar, Titus Adeniyi; the Dean of the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Emmanuel Fakoya; and the Head of the Department of Agricultural Administration, Adefunke Ayinde, among others.
