Heritage Fertilizer Introduces New Organomineral Fertiliser Brand

News in Brief:

—Heritage Fertilizer Company and Agrichitech has introduced a new organomineral fertiliser brand to support farmers amid rising agricultural input costs and food security concerns.

—The product combines organic materials with mineral nutrients to improve soil fertility, retain soil texture, and provide a sustainable alternative to conventional chemical fertilisers.

The management of Heritage Fertilizer Company and Agrichitech has introduced a new brand of organomineral fertiliser into the Nigerian market as part of efforts to support farmers and strengthen food production across the country.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the firm, Dr Mustapha Radda, said the company considered it necessary to introduce the product at a time when rising agricultural input costs are threatening farming activities and national food security.

Jigawa Research Institute Conducts Product Assessment

Dr Radda made this known while receiving a delegation of laboratory scientists and technical experts from the Jigawa Research Institute, who visited Katsina State to collect samples of the company’s organomineral fertiliser for nutrient and quality analysis.

According to him, organomineral fertiliser is produced by combining organic materials such as compost, poultry manure, crop residues, and animal waste with mineral nutrients including nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Company Targets Affordable Fertiliser for Farmers

The company’s chief executive explained that the initiative was established to make fertiliser more affordable and accessible for local farmers while boosting agricultural development and ensuring food security.

He added that the product is also intended to reduce overdependence on chemical fertilisers for food production in Nigeria.

According to Dr Radda, one of the major differences between organomineral fertiliser and conventional chemical fertiliser is that while the latter releases nutrients rapidly, organomineral fertilisers improve soil texture and long-term soil fertility through organic matter retention.

JRI Commends Production Standards

Speaking during the inspection visit, the Director-General of the Jigawa Research Institute, Dr Suleiman Rufa’i Babura, expressed satisfaction with the company’s operational standards and fertiliser production processes.

He stated that the visit was aimed at collecting fertiliser samples for further laboratory analysis before recommendations are presented to the state government for necessary action.

Dr Babura noted that the exercise forms part of the Jigawa State Government’s broader efforts to ensure that farmers have access to effective and high-quality agricultural inputs.

“It is for this reason that the Research Institute consistently conducts research aimed at ensuring sustainable farming systems in the state, in line with the agricultural policy priorities of Governor Malam Umar Namadi,” he said.
