Johnvents Launches ESG Strategy with 50,000-Farm Sustainability Screening

News in Brief:

— Johnvents Group has released its first Sustainability Report, outlining environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance and screening more than 50,000 farms to identify deforestation risks.

— The agribusiness company is also expanding cocoa traceability, farmer empowerment and climate governance to meet international sustainability standards and strengthen access to export markets.

Johnvents Group has published its inaugural Sustainability Report, outlining its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance while unveiling initiatives to strengthen responsible sourcing, climate action and corporate governance across its agribusiness operations.

The report reflects its commitment to transparent, accountable and sustainable business practices while aligning its operations with internationally recognised ESG standards and evolving global market requirements.

International Sustainability Standards

Covering the 2025 reporting period, the Sustainability Report was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 13: Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fishing Sectors 2022 Standard.

It also incorporates a Double Materiality Assessment aligned with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), providing an evaluation of the group's environmental, social and governance performance.

The report consolidates sustainability activities across the company's subsidiaries, including Johnvents Foods, Johnvents Industries, Premium Cocoa Products, Ile-Oluji and Noble-Eagle.

Company Screens 50,000 Farms for Deforestation Risks

A key highlight of the report is the screening of more than 50,000 farms to identify and manage deforestation risks as part of efforts to comply with increasingly stringent international market requirements.

The company revealed that it has also expanded implementation of its 150,000 Cocoa Farmers Empowerment Programme while strengthening farm-to-warehouse traceability systems to support compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Rainforest Alliance certification standards.

Johnvents noted that these initiatives are intended to improve supply chain transparency, strengthen responsible sourcing and maintain access to key export markets.

Climate Governance and ESG Systems Strengthened

Beyond responsible sourcing, the company disclosed that it has established its first greenhouse gas inventory in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

It also reported progress in strengthening climate governance, enhancing deforestation risk management and advancing implementation of its Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP).

According to the company, its corporate governance framework has also been reinforced through board-level oversight and specialised units responsible for responsible sourcing, sustainable finance, carbon management, regulatory compliance, and occupational health and safety.

Sustainability Positioned as Driver of Business Growth

Founder and Group Managing Director of Johnvents Group, Mr John Alamu, described the report as a significant milestone in the company's sustainability journey.

He claimed that it marks a new phase in how the company measures, manages, and communicates its environmental and social impact while reinforcing its commitment to accountability, transparency, and long-term value creation.

Alamu added that the company's next priorities include strengthening governance structures, expanding sustainability initiatives across its value chain and building a resilient business capable of competing in global markets.

Group Executive Director, Mr Tarun Chawla, said sustainability has become central to long-term business performance and resilience.

According to him, the report reflects the company's progress in strengthening its sustainability systems while reaffirming its commitment to responsible operations and shared value creation for stakeholders.
