News in brief:

-Kebbi State is positioning the 2026 Argungu Festival as a major investment and tourism platform.

-Foreign investors from Europe and Asia have indicated interest in attending the event.

The Kebbi State Government has intensified preparations for the 2026 Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, as part of efforts to boost tourism, attract foreign investment and stimulate economic growth.

In a statement issued by Abdullahi Zuru, the Special Adviser to Governor Nasir Idris on Strategy and Communication, the Kebbi State Investment Promotion Agency was described as playing a central role in ensuring the success of the festival.

Zuru said the agency is focusing on leveraging the global visibility of the event to attract foreign investors and showcase Kebbi State’s economic potential.

Foreign Investors Signal Interest

According to the statement, Dr Muhammad Kabir Kamba, the Director-General of the agency, revealed that investors from Europe and Asia have expressed interest in attending the festival following Governor Nasir Idris’ overseas engagements.

“We are expecting a large turnout of investors who are interested in exploring the state’s abundant natural resources and potential partnerships with the government and people of Kebbi State,” Kamba said.

To prepare for the anticipated influx of visitors, the agency is engaging hotel owners across the state to upgrade their facilities.

“We are working with hotel owners to ensure they upgrade their facilities to meet international standards,” Kamba added, noting that accommodation quality would be critical to the overall success of the event.

Festival to Showcase Culture and Economic Opportunities

The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival is scheduled to be held from February 11 to 14, 2026.

The event is expected to highlight Kebbi State’s rich cultural heritage, agricultural produce, livestock assets and solid mineral resources, positioning the state as an emerging destination for tourism and investment.

As part of the programme, a consultative forum will be organised to bring together investors, government institutions and indigenous business leaders.

The forum is expected to facilitate discussions on partnership opportunities and investment prospects across key sectors of the state’s economy.

Governor’s Reforms Strengthen Investment Climate

The statement noted that Governor Nasir Idris has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving Kebbi State’s socio-economic prospects, including assenting to a law that authorises the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy for residential, commercial and industrial plots.

The reform is aimed at improving land security and encouraging private sector investment.

The Festival Organising Committee, chaired by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, is coordinating preparations to ensure a successful outing.

The Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival, which was suspended for several years, was revived by Governor Nasir Idris. This 2026 edition is expected to be the most impactful yet, featuring economic empowerment initiatives focused on job creation and wealth generation for the people of Kebbi State.
