Land Owners Protest Alleged Farmlands Seizure by Kano Govt

News in brief:

-Farmers from several villages in Kano State have protested the alleged seizure of their farmlands without compensation.

-The affected communities say the dispute over land acquisition linked to the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline is already before the state High Court.

Land owners from several communities in Kano State have protested the alleged seizure of their farmlands, urging the state Ministry of Lands and Survey to act with fairness and justice by releasing the affected lands.

The farmers, drawn from nine villages across three local government areas, said their lands were taken by authorities without adequate compensation.

Farmers Raise Concerns Over Land Acquisition

The affected communities include Tamburawa, Magami Matage, Tudun Bayero, Hausawa, Tabki, Kumbotso, Tsamawa and Kalinja.

The farmers, operating under the Farmers Development Forum on the AKK Project, said the disputed land is connected to the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline.

According to the group, the matter is currently before the Kano State High Court following the alleged seizure of the farmlands.

Court Order Allegedly Violated

The secretary of the group, Mukhtar Hussain, stated that the court had earlier directed both the farmers and the state government to maintain the status quo while the case is being heard.

However, he expressed shock after residents reportedly saw heavily armed security personnel escorting trucks to the farmlands in Tamburawa village, where some of the lands were allegedly destroyed.

Hussain said the development prompted the farmers to visit the Ministry of Lands and Survey to demand clarification over what they described as a violation of the court’s directive.

According to him, the group staged the visit to seek justice and ensure that due process is followed in resolving the dispute over the affected farmlands.
