Livestock Ministry Builds Staff Capacity on Digital Payment Platforms

News in Brief:

-Nigeria's livestock ministry trains treasury staff on GIFMIS, Remita and TaxPromax to improve financial accountability and efficiency.

-The officials emphasise the relevance of digital platforms across public services.

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) has concluded a three-day in-house training programme on the operational procedures of key government payment platforms, including the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), Remita and TaxPromax.

The workshop, which was held in Abuja from January 14 to 16, was organised for treasury officials as part of efforts to strengthen financial accountability, operational efficiency and service delivery within the Ministry.

Finance Director Urges Staff to Maximise Training

Declaring the training open, the Director of Finance and Accounts, Abdulraheem Adekunle, urged participants to take full advantage of the programme, stressing that the skills acquired would remain relevant across different roles and postings within the public service.

He explained that the training was designed as an interactive and practical session aimed at deepening officers’ understanding of government payment systems and enhancing their capacity to manage financial transactions in compliance with existing regulations.

Adekunle noted that digital platforms had become central to government operations and required a high level of technical competence from treasury officers.

Facilitators Highlight Impact

One of the facilitators, Ayodele Thomas, delivered a detailed presentation on the Remita and TaxPromax platforms, highlighting their broad application across government institutions, private organisations and individuals.

He explained that the platforms support collections, payments, invoicing and payroll services, and can be accessed through both web-based and mobile applications.

According to him, the systems are built with multi-layer security and authentication features to ensure transparency and accountability at every stage of financial transactions.

Service Types Structure Revenue Inflows

Thomas also explained the concept of 'service types,' describing them as structured channels through which revenues are collected into government accounts.

He cited examples relevant to the livestock sector, including inspection fees and facility-related services, noting that proper configuration of service types was critical for accurate revenue tracking and reporting.

Another facilitator, Mr Femi Bolaji, led a session on GIFMIS, describing it as a core federal government-owned platform for managing public finances. He explained that the platform integrates multiple financial processes into a single system, enhances expenditure control and promotes prudent management of public funds across ministries, departments and agencies.

Bolaji encouraged participants to fully embrace the platform, noting its growing importance within the civil service and its relevance to professional development and career progression.
