-Private investors proposed large-scale ranching, dairy production, and integrated livestock hubs with modern infrastructure and technology transfer.
The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has received a fresh private sector investment proposal aimed at accelerating ranching, dairy production, and integrated livestock development across Nigeria.
The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, received the delegation from Consolidated Limited Investment Partners, led by the Legal Adviser for Amedeo Solution, Emmanuel Omoruyi, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Maiha stated that the Federal Government remains committed to creating an enabling environment that supports investment, innovation, and sustainable growth in the livestock industry.
According to him, the establishment of the ministry was a deliberate policy decision aimed at unlocking the sector’s economic potential and positioning Nigeria as a major livestock investment destination in Africa.
Ministry Pushes Ranching as Sustainable Livestock Model
The minister noted that the investment proposal aligns with the ministry’s strategic focus on ranching as a modern, sustainable, and economically viable system of animal husbandry.
Highlighting opportunities within the sector, Maiha said Nigeria currently faces a significant supply gap in milk and red meat production.
“Nigeria has a national demand of about 1.7 billion litres of milk annually and over 1.5 million metric tonnes of red meat. These gaps represent real investment opportunities, and we are ready to work with partners to close them,” he said.
He further disclosed that more than five million hectares of land had already been earmarked nationwide for livestock development, including grazing reserves being transformed into modern economic hubs.
Government Assures Investors on Security
Addressing security concerns, the minister acknowledged existing challenges but assured investors that the government was implementing both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to ensure a stable investment climate.
He added that increased investment in agriculture and livestock development would also contribute to employment generation and help reduce insecurity.
Investors Propose Integrated Livestock Hubs
The delegation presented a comprehensive proposal focused on transforming Nigeria’s livestock industry through large-scale investments in ranching, dairy production, and integrated agricultural systems.
The proposal includes the establishment of modern livestock hubs featuring residential estates, healthcare facilities, schools, and other supporting infrastructure alongside structured profit-sharing arrangements with local communities and stakeholders.
The investors also outlined plans to introduce advanced technologies, strengthen technical capacity through international partnerships, and encourage knowledge transfer across the livestock value chain.
According to Omoruyi, the initiative is designed to combine global expertise from Europe, Asia, and the Americas with strong local participation to promote inclusive and sustainable development.
Focus on Dairy Expansion and Market Access
The delegation further revealed plans to expand dairy production, improve animal feed systems, and strengthen market access within the livestock sector.
The proposed investment is expected to support Nigeria’s broader efforts to modernise livestock production, reduce import dependence, improve food security, and stimulate rural economic development.
