Livestock Ministry to Establish SERVICOM Unit to Strengthen Service Delivery

News in Brief:

—The Livestock Ministry is introducing a SERVICOM Unit to strengthen accountability and improve access to government services.

—A new Service Charter will outline service standards, timelines and mechanisms for citizens to provide feedback.

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has announced plans to establish a Ministerial SERVICOM Unit as part of efforts to improve transparency, accountability and the quality of public services provided to citizens.

The ministry also disclosed plans to develop a Service Charter that will define service standards, timelines and expectations for effective engagement with the public.

Ministry Commits to Stronger Accountability Measures

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, announced the initiative while receiving a delegation from SERVICOM led by Acting National Coordinator, Mrs Helen Lawal, at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

Akujobi described the ministry as a performance-focused institution with clear objectives and timelines, emphasising the importance of monitoring and evaluation systems to measure service delivery across government agencies.

She stated that effective public service requires accountability, with strong recognition for high-performing teams and corrective measures where standards are not met.

The Permanent Secretary pledged the ministry’s commitment to supporting SERVICOM activities and revealed that a dedicated budget allocation would be created from 2027 to support the new unit's operations.

She added that strengthening internal systems would help the ministry deliver better outcomes for citizens and stakeholders within the livestock sector.

SERVICOM Highlights Areas of Collaboration

Mrs Lawal commended the ministry’s leadership for embracing reforms aimed at improving public sector performance.

She explained that SERVICOM was established to promote excellence in government service delivery and ensure that citizens receive timely, efficient and people-focused services.

Lawal identified key areas of collaboration, including the establishment of a SERVICOM Unit and Committee, staff training, customer satisfaction assessments, complaints management and regular performance reviews.

The proposed Service Charter will serve as a practical accountability framework by clearly stating the ministry's services, expected standards and delivery timelines. It would enable citizens to understand available services and hold public institutions accountable for meeting their commitments.

SERVICOM further stressed the need for continued leadership support, adequate staffing, training and engagement with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the reforms.
