The Cross River Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has recently destroyed an eight-hectare cannabis farm in the Uyanga community, Akamkpa Local Government Area (LGA), as part of ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug cultivation.
The agency disclosed that its operatives, working alongside soldiers from the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, recovered 170 kilogrammes of processed cannabis during the operation. Its spokesperson, Sebastian Lebo, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Calabar.
The operation followed a similar enforcement exercise carried out days earlier in the Uwet community, also within the Akamkpa Local Government Area. According to the agency, a six-hectare cannabis farm was destroyed in the earlier raid, with approximately 15 tonnes of the illicit crop eliminated and 119 kilogrammes of processed cannabis recovered.

The State Commander, John Anteyi, commended the officers and supporting military personnel for their efforts in the operations. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to sustaining its crackdown on illegal drug activities across the state.
Anteyi added that the NDLEA, under the leadership of its Chairman, Buba Marwa, would continue to prioritise efforts aimed at keeping communities free from illicit substances.
