Nestlé Nigeria’s Share Price Surpasses ₦1,900 on NGX

Nestlé Nigeria’s share price surpassed ₦1,900 on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) last week, maintaining its position as the most valuable stock (per share) in the combined agriculture and consumer goods (food products) sectors. Only Seplat Energy Plc (₦5,917.2) in Oil and Gas and Airtel Africa Plc (₦2,310.5) in Telecommunications currently trade at higher prices.

Strong Year-to-Date Growth

Nestlé’s stock has recorded remarkable growth in 2025. It rose 16% in the first quarter, surpassing ₦1,000 per share by March’s end. The second quarter saw an additional 42% jump, followed by a 24.67% increase in Q3. By the last week of September, the stock was trading at ₦1,870—more than double its value at the start of the year. Although October’s performance has been modest with a 2.4% gain, it was enough to push the price within reach of the ₦2,000 mark.

Return to Profitability

Nestlé Nigeria Plc reported robust top-line growth and a strong return to profitability, reversing the heavy losses recorded in 2024. Revenue for the first nine months of 2025 rose 33% to ₦884.54 billion, up from ₦665.29 billion in the same period last year. Profit for the period reached ₦72.48 billion, compared to a ₦184.27 billion loss in 2024, driven by a solid operating profit of ₦181.34 billion and a sharp reduction in finance costs. Basic Earnings Per Share (EPS) climbed to ₦91.44, from a loss per share of ₦232.47 last year.

Impact of Exchange Rate Stability

The key driver behind Nestlé’s profit rebound was a major improvement in net finance costs, aided by a ₦20.75 billion net foreign exchange gain on foreign currency balances. This contrasts sharply with the ₦285.29 billion loss recorded during the same period in 2024, underscoring how fluctuations in the naira’s exchange rate can significantly influence the company’s financial performance.
