News in brief:

-The partnership targets investment, technology transfer, and value chain development across key livestock segments.
The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development (FMLD) has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to expanding strategic collaboration with Türkiye to support the transformation of the livestock sector.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, while receiving a delegation from the Nigeria–Türkiye Business Council in Abuja.
Livestock Sector Offers Wide Investment Opportunities
Maiha stated that the engagement aligns with the economic agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to strengthen international partnerships and drive growth in key sectors of the economy.
He noted that Nigeria’s livestock sector presents vast opportunities across the entire value chain, including feed and fodder production, animal health, ranching, dairy development, meat processing, cold-chain logistics, and transportation.
“The Nigerian livestock sector is open for business. The entire value chain is undergoing transformation and offers strong opportunities for investment,” the minister said.
Focus on Technology Transfer and Sector Modernisation
The minister emphasised that collaboration with Türkiye could accelerate progress in critical areas such as red meat production, breed improvement through advanced genetics, grazing reserve development, dairy production, and vaccine manufacturing.
He added that Nigeria is seeking partners capable of bringing technology, technical expertise, and capital investment to support the ongoing reforms in the sector.
Türkiye’s Expertise Seen as Strategic Advantage
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Council, Dele Kelvin Oye, highlighted Türkiye’s experience in livestock development as a valuable resource for Nigeria.
He noted that Türkiye has developed strong capabilities in areas such as artificial insemination, poultry production systems, feed manufacturing, livestock equipment, leather processing, and pasture management.
According to him, these competencies align closely with Nigeria’s priority areas for livestock sector development.
Commitment to Facilitating Investment Partnerships
Oye commended the ministry’s efforts to reposition the livestock sector and expressed the Council’s readiness to facilitate partnerships between Nigerian and Turkish investors.
He added that such collaborations would help unlock investment opportunities, improve productivity, and strengthen the overall livestock value chain in Nigeria.
