News in Brief:
-The Nigerian army rescued 30 abducted farmers in Kebbi State, who were kidnapped while working on their farms, and freed them unharmed.
-Residents praised the soldiers’ swift intervention amid rising farm abductions as military operations aim to secure farming communities.
Thirty farmers abducted by armed bandits in Tudun Wada, Bena district of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State, have been rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army. The victims, who were kidnapped while working on their farms, were freed after soldiers trailed the abductors into the forest.
The rescue operation was reported by a local news outlet, which quoted a security analyst named Bakastine. The report claims that the troops acted swiftly upon receiving intelligence about the abduction, leading to the safe release of all 30 farmers without casualties.
“This afternoon, soldiers in Kebbi State have rescued 30 farmers abducted in Tudun Wada Bena district, Danko-Wasagu LGA. The victims were taken while working on their farms. Troops tracked the gunmen into the bush and freed all captives unharmed. Ops still ongoing,” the news stated.
Relief for Farming Communities
Residents of the area allegedly hailed the soldiers’ efforts, describing the rescue as a 'timely intervention' that restored hope to farmers living in fear. For weeks, the Danko-Wasagu area had been under tension following a series of farm-related abductions that disrupted agricultural activities.
“We can now go back to our farms with a bit more confidence,” one local farmer reportedly said, expressing gratitude to the military for their quick action.
Ongoing Security Operations
Security sources said that operations are still ongoing to clear the area of remaining bandits and prevent further attacks on farmers. Authorities have also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing timely information that could aid surveillance and early response.
The rescue highlights the broader challenge of insecurity in Nigeria’s farming communities, especially in the northern regions, where frequent attacks have forced many smallholders to abandon their farmlands, threatening food security and rural livelihoods.
