Nigeria’s first large-scale gold mining company, Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL), has expanded its Livelihood Restoration Programme. The company launched the first phase of its Plantain Rehabilitation Programme and advanced its Cocoa Rehabilitation Programme into its third phase, benefiting 100 farmers across its host communities in Osun State.
According to a statement issued by the company, the handover ceremony took place on June 4, 2026, at the New Iperindo Town Hall. Traditional rulers, community leaders, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders were all present to mark the latest phase of the company’s community development initiatives.
Programme Targets Sustainable Livelihoods
The company said the intervention will support agriculture, strengthen livelihoods, and promote sustainable income-generating activities within its host communities.
Since launching the Livelihood Restoration Programme in 2023, SROL has implemented a range of agricultural empowerment initiatives to restore and improve the livelihoods of project-affected persons.
These interventions have included fish farming, vegetable farming, and phased seedling distribution programmes aimed at enhancing economic resilience and income generation among local farmers.
Previous Phases Supported Cocoa and Oil Palm Farmers
Under the second phase of the Cocoa Rehabilitation Programme, 23 beneficiaries from each host community received 400 high-yield cocoa seedlings and agrochemicals to improve productivity.
The first phase of the Oil Palm Rehabilitation Programme also supported seven beneficiaries from the host communities, with each farmer receiving 100 high-yield oil palm seedlings and agrochemicals.
100 Farmers Benefit from Latest Intervention
Under the latest phase of the programme, a total of 100 farmers across the company’s three host communities are benefiting from the rehabilitation initiatives.
Of the beneficiaries, 70 farmers are participating in the third phase of the Cocoa Rehabilitation Programme, while 30 farmers have been enrolled in the first phase of the Plantain Rehabilitation Programme.
Each cocoa farmer received 500 high-yield cocoa seedlings and agrochemicals, while plantain farmers were provided with 100 plantain suckers and agrochemicals to support cultivation and improve yields.
Company Reaffirms Commitment to Community Development
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the company's Community Development and Stakeholder Manager, Madhurii Sarkar-Amoda, stated that agriculture remains a critical source of livelihood for many families within the company's host communities.
She noted that the Livelihood Restoration Programme is designed to equip farmers with the resources they need to improve productivity, increase incomes, and build more sustainable futures.
According to her, the initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of its operations extend beyond mining activities and contribute meaningfully to long-term economic growth and community resilience.
Community Leaders Commend Initiative
Community representatives praised SROL for its continued investment in livelihood improvement programmes across its host communities, noting that the company has consistently implemented initiatives to empower residents.
They also encouraged beneficiaries to make effective use of the agricultural inputs to improve productivity and sustain income generation.
Through the Livelihood Restoration Programme, SROL continues to support agricultural development, improve livelihoods, and encourage socio-economic growth within its host communities in Osun State.
