The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has agreed to collaborate with Cosmopolitan University to develop climate-smart solutions powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and satellite data.

According to a statement issued recently by NiMet, the agreement followed a courtesy visit by the Vice Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, to the agency's headquarters in Abuja, where he met with the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike.

The two institutions agreed to formalise the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Partnership to Promote Research and Innovation

Anosike said both institutions share a common responsibility of translating scientific research into practical solutions that benefit society.

He highlighted NiMet's commitment to generating research that supports public welfare and commended the university's use of artificial intelligence to develop climate-resilient communities.

Adams reaffirmed the university's commitment to training the next generation of indigenous AI scientists while developing innovative technologies to support smallholder farmers and strengthen climate resilience.

MoU to Cover Agriculture, AI and Meteorology

Under the proposed Memorandum of Understanding, both organisations will collaborate on multidisciplinary research in climate-smart and digital agriculture, aviation meteorology, artificial intelligence applications and data analytics.

The partnership will also include staff exchange programmes and the use of meteorological information to improve livelihoods and support sustainable development.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the university's Pro-Chancellor and other members of its senior management team.
