Promasidor Invests in Ikun Dairy Farm to Boost Local Production

News in brief:

-Promasidor says its Ikun Dairy Farm investment is strengthening Nigeria’s local dairy value chain.

-The project has created jobs, expanded milk production capacity and supported community development in Ekiti State.

Promasidor Nigeria has revealed that it is strengthening local milk production through investment in Ikun Dairy Farm, leveraging its partnership with the National Dairy Development Programme (NDDP) to support economic growth and expand access to affordable, high-quality dairy products across the country.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, François Gillet, said the investment has delivered measurable results while establishing a sustainable and inclusive framework for Nigeria’s dairy industry.

Investment Aligns with Localisation Strategy

Gillet described the NDDP as a critical pillar of Promasidor’s long-term strategy to localise raw material sourcing and strengthen the domestic dairy ecosystem.

“As a market leader in quality food and beverage products, the National Dairy Development Programme is central to our plan to ensure consistent delivery of nutritious milk products to Nigerian consumers,” he said.

Ikun Dairy Farm Expands Capacity

Established in 2019 through a partnership with the Ekiti State Government, Ikun Dairy Farm began with an initial investment of $5 million, followed by additional capital injections to expand operations.

The farm currently houses over 750 high-yielding cattle, making it the largest dairy farm in Nigeria and a key component of Promasidor’s local production strategy.

According to the company, advanced dairy management systems are deployed at the farm, including routine artificial insemination techniques aimed at increasing heifer births and supporting sustainable herd expansion.

To ensure consistent and high-quality nutrition, Ikun Dairy Farm also operates a feed security programme, cultivating more than 500 hectares of maize and soya beans.

Job Creation, Education, Nutrition Initiatives and Community Impact

Beyond production, the dairy farm has become a significant driver of socio-economic development in Ikun-Ekiti and surrounding communities.

Promasidor stated that the farm provides direct employment for over 200 residents and supports more than 1,000 indirect jobs, contributing to income generation and economic activity in Ekiti State.

The operation is supported by trained veterinary doctors and dairy practitioners to maintain animal health and operational efficiency.

Promasidor’s social impact efforts extend to education through the Ikun Milk Day initiative, which distributes fresh milk weekly to primary school pupils in the Ikun community. This initiative improves child nutrition while supporting learning outcomes.

Long-Standing Presence in Nigeria’s Food Sector

Gillet noted that Promasidor has a long history of innovation in Nigeria’s food and beverage industry, dating back to the launch of Cowbell Milk sachet in March 1993.

Promasidor’s product portfolio includes Cowbell, Loya, Miksi, Toptea, Onga, Twisco and Kremela, reflecting its broader focus on quality, innovation and sustainable growth.

Located in Ikun-Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State, the Ikun Dairy Farm spans over 500 hectares and, according to the company, demonstrates how collaboration with national programmes can support food security, industrial development and job creation in Nigeria.
