-The programme offers Nigerian entrepreneurs mentorship, incubation support, investor access, and opportunities to scale agricultural innovations across Africa.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has opened applications for AgriTech startups to join the timbuktoo Pan-African Incubation Network and the timbuktoo AgriTech Hub in Ghana, creating fresh opportunities for Nigerian entrepreneurs developing technology-driven agricultural solutions.
Supported by the Government of Japan, the programme seeks to identify and support innovative startups working to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen food systems, increase farmers’ incomes, and promote climate-resilient agriculture across Africa.
Agriculture remains one of Africa’s largest economic sectors, employing more than half of the continent’s workforce. However, farmers and agribusinesses continue to face major challenges such as climate risks, limited access to finance, poor market access, and inefficient supply chains.
Opportunities for Nigerian AgriTech Founders
For Nigerian entrepreneurs, the initiative presents an opportunity to scale solutions beyond local markets and gain exposure to investors, mentors, and ecosystem partners across Africa.
Selected startups will join a continent-wide network of incubators and innovation hubs under the timbuktoo ecosystem. Participants will also receive structured incubation support, mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts, and access to demo days and investor engagement opportunities.
In addition, startups will gain access to the SIGMA digital platform powered by Seedstars, which offers AI-powered business guidance, learning resources, mentorship matching, and startup progress tracking tools designed to improve investment readiness.
The programme is open to startups working in areas such as climate-smart agriculture, precision farming, agri-finance, agricultural data and analytics, food processing, supply chain innovation, market access platforms, and sustainable farm inputs.
Eligibility and Application Process
To qualify, startups must be based in Africa or building solutions targeted at African agricultural markets. Applicants are also expected to have a prototype or Minimum Viable Product (MVP), a committed founding team, and a scalable business model addressing a clearly defined challenge within the agricultural value chain.
UNDP said it particularly encourages applications from women-led startups, youth entrepreneurs, and founders serving underserved or rural communities.
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through quarterly cohorts, with the first cohort scheduled to begin in June 2026 and additional cohorts starting every three months.
The programme reflects growing efforts to position Africa’s agricultural sector as a hub for innovation, investment, food security, and job creation, while helping entrepreneurs develop scalable solutions capable of transforming the continent’s food systems.
